Community Outreach and Adult Education
Our Promotoras (Community Health Specialists) have deep roots in the communities served, and are vital to connecting our mission with the daily lives of our neighbors. They share knowledge about wellness, our programs, and government support services like SNAP, while weaving trust, compassion, and understanding into every interaction.
When they are not out in the neighborhoods connecting with the community, you may often find our Promotoras training on new skills, engaging with other departments, or creating new lessons for their programs.
Promotoras lead home visits throughout the year, where they join community members in creating recipes using ingredients found in The GrowHaus’ no-cost food box. Evidence-based programming, coupled with their passion and ingenuity, transforms a simple home visit into a journey of discovery, where cooking lessons celebrate both traditional and unfamiliar vegetables, and nutrition becomes a shared language. Home visits spread healthy habits and create cherished moments around the dining table.
Neighbor-to-Neighbor Home Visits
The GrowHaus' backyard gardening program provides fresh, seasonal produce to our neighbors in Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea (GES), one of Denver's oldest food-insecure communities. Alongside community members and dedicated supporters, we plant vegetable seedlings that are eventually harvested for nourishing meals enjoyed around the dinner table. Growing your own fruits and vegetables is about connection with your food, autonomy, and choice. Our Promotoras help guide these gardening projects, using their close community connections to identify households interested in cultivating a backyard garden.

Health and Wellness Classes
We see food access as a starting point for overall health, wellness, and sustainability. Promotoras lead health and wellness classes throughout the year, in activities ranging from nutrition lessons to Zumba and outdoor therapy. Our classes are designed to promote a sense of community and connections around creating healthy habits.
SNAP Outreach and Support
The GrowHaus team leverages its position as a trusted community resource to connect individuals and families to government assistance programs, including SNAP. The GrowHaus has a specialized team of SNAP Promotoras who provided outreach and enrollment assistance to over 350 individuals in 2024.
