Food Access

Since 2009, The GrowHaus has worked to enhance the well-being of those living in Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea, a marginalized North Denver community, by providing food access, health and wellness education, job creation, and leadership development.

Over the last three years, The GrowHaus has bridged the nutrition gap for over 1,000 families by distributing 2.6 million meals via weekly fresh food boxes. The GrowHaus’ community-led team sources food from local farms, food banks, and hubs to ensure families experiencing food insecurity have access to high-quality produce grown here in Colorado. By providing families with reliable food access, The GrowHaus is alleviating a significant burden and creating additional capacity for families to engage in enriching and interactive programming.

The GrowHaus is leveraging its expertise to expand food access in other Denver neighborhoods experiencing food insecurity through partnerships with the Denver Public Library and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.

Through community partnerships, The GrowHaus is reaching over 5,000 individuals, including 2,136 youth in 20 neighborhoods. Community members pick up their fresh food boxes at convenient community hubs, including libraries, Boys and Girls Clubs, The GrowHaus warehouse, local churches, and parks. Beyond food access, partnerships give community members a gateway into The GrowHaus’ youth, adult, and multigenerational programming throughout the year. The GrowHaus includes information in the fresh food boxes and connects families to health and wellness classes like gardening, nutrition, and Zumba, as well as SNAP outreach and enrollment assistance. Classes are not just about building healthy habits; they cultivate community connections and strengthen cultural and familial bonds through food.
