Teens drive positive change for their community as facilitators of our summer leadership program, Seed2Seed. In summer 2024, we welcomed Brianna and Silvia, previous Seed2Seed students, to further hone their leadership abilities by guiding their peers on a journey to explore food justice and learn life skills that promote healthy habits.
Brianna’s journey with The GrowHaus began in 2018 as a little girl holding chickens and picking fruit from trees at Abejitas, our program for young children. Four years later, she participated in Seed2Seed and returned as a program facilitator this year. She credits her experience at The GrowHaus with building self-confidence and taking steps towards reaching her professional goals in healthcare.
By joining También and becoming part of our monthly giving community, facilitators like Brianna have reliable funds to plan activities for Seed2Seed students and resources to lead a passion project addressing a community topic meaningful to them.
It Makes Me Feel Good
By Brianna Sanchez
In 2022, we got a flyer about Seed2Seed in the food boxes my family and I were receiving. My mom encouraged me to participate, and we both thought it was a good opportunity for me in the summertime. Throughout the program, I became more social and less of an introvert.
“It’s a habit I have now. I can talk to anyone and become friends with
them quickly!”
I’m enjoying seeing this year’s students have a similar experience, being social and getting along quickly. I’m also excited to be a facilitator because it will help grow my professional skills. I already have some time management skills, but this is an actual job and is helping me with deadlines and managing responsibility.
“Being a facilitator makes me feel like I’m doing something productive for myself and growing as a person. It makes me feel good.”
My education is my top priority right now. My dream is to go into the nursing and health field. I want to be a sonographer and help people be healthy. I know it is something I would enjoy doing. I’m going into my last year of high school, but I know I still have to put in the effort and keep my focus, and that’s why I’m pursuing this opportunity as a facilitator.
The GrowHaus is eager to continue supporting Brianna and other emerging teen leaders throughout the year, but we can’t do this work without you. Join our monthly giving community, También, to provide reliable year-round funds to help us engage and encourage rising leaders through field trips, guest speakers, and mentorship.
